How and when to catch trophy herring in Russia?

Herring are hunted using a variety of fishing gear (spinning rods, elastic bands, and samodur ). Trophy trips on the Putorana Plateau can yield large numbers of this species. They inhabit the taiga of the Siberian Yenisei River. Many prestigious trophies can be caught while traversing the taiga routes along the Tutonchana, Severnaya, and Kochumdek rivers or Lake Agata.

What species are permitted to be fished in the Russian Federation?

Fishing for certain types of herring is prohibited by law, as is fishing for taimen, the master of Siberian rivers, while rafting through the taiga.

Only so-called black-backed bats can be used as trophies. The name "black-back" allows one to identify the individual.

· Another species of puzanka, females going to spawn in the spring, should be returned to their native habitat.

Fishermen also release small trophies to comply with legal fishing limits. Most caught herring weigh between 200 and 800 grams.

A school of herring can be caught in just a few casts.
Predator fishing can be done with different rods and tackle.

How to find a fishing spot?

Electronic gadgets (echo sounders, underwater cameras) aren't the only way to detect the presence of fish. External signs, such as:

· A large concentration of fishermen in one place.

· The presence of many birds circling over the reservoir.

· Decent depth, approximately 2-3 meters, and fast current.

Herring can be caught during daylight hours, in large numbers. Fishing is more productive early in the morning on a fine, warm day. Weather conditions can influence the bite. For example, when atmospheric pressure changes, the fish become less active, retreating to deeper waters and awaiting a change in the weather.

What gear will make the fishing trophy-quality?

When choosing bait, keep in mind that herring are practically omnivorous. Therefore, you can use artificial or live bait. When fishing with a spinning rod, your rig can include spinners or edible silicone lures.

Spinning herring fishing

Models up to 3 meters long allow for the landing of decent trophies. Their casting weight can range from 10 to 40 grams. A telescopic rod is ideal for a narrow river. Rigging elements include several hooks with extended shanks, a sinker with a soldered swivel, and additional items (colored thread, cambric, etc.).

When casting, don't wait for the sinker to hit the bottom. After a slight dive, reel in the line with jerks and short pauses. The predator notices the movement and attacks the hooks, sometimes even those without bait, mistaking them for live bait.

Spinning is one of the favorite fishing tackles of Russian fishermen.

The final part

Herring can also be caught using other gear. Some anglers prefer to use elastic bait, while others prefer match or feeder rods. Sometimes, models equipped with multiple hooks are attacked by several fish at once.

Don't forget about the legality of fishing. Small fish must be released without fail. These fish have been very popular in our country since ancient times. Delicious dishes are prepared from them. The New Year's appetizers "herring under a fur coat" or fish in a spicy salted sauce are well known to everyone.
