Goose hunting is one of the most exciting activities. Trophy tours on the Putorana Plateau allow you not only to hunt to your heart's content but also to spend your free time fishing for large predators that inhabit the reserve's numerous bodies of water. However, careful preparation is essential. What do you need? Required equipment and gear.
Weapons required for the trophy tour:
Most often, hunters choose weapons from two categories: semi-automatic and double-barreled shotguns.
Semi-automatic
For goose hunting, shotguns with excellent shock absorption to prevent damage to the rear walls of the receiver are ideal. These include models with 70 and 76 mm chambers, such as Browning, Beretta, Remington, TOZ, MTs, MP, and others. Imported shotguns offer many advantages, although domestically produced models also have some merits.
For example, the MP-153, with its standard choke, has proven itself excellent for goose hunting. However, the Remington and Beretta, while boasting their advantages, also have a serious drawback: their excessive weight of nearly 4 kg. This makes them unsuitable for every hunting enthusiast.

Double-barreled
Popular double-barreled shotguns include the older IZHs, which were popular even before the first semiautomatics appeared. Newer MC shotguns are also excellent for goose hunting, but they are relatively expensive. However, they offer more advantages and benefits.
Therefore, hunters will need to choose which weapon to use when hunting game. And for an excellent trophy hunting experience, they also need to prepare equipment, decoys, calls, and much more.
How to properly prepare for hunting.
To be fully prepared for a trophy goose hunt, a thorough approach to preparation is required. To do this, you'll need to gather the following auxiliary components:
- Profiles and decoys are an important step that requires careful attention. These products aren't overly expensive, but they do require some investment. Profiles include birds cut from plywood, while decoys are more realistic geese that can be released into the river as decoys. Inflatables are also a type of decoy. Semi-profile models are also available, featuring only a more realistic upper portion and a flat bottom. Disassemblable models are simply disassembled versions of the bird.
- Equipment is essential for a hunter, just like for a fisherman. Clothing should be warm and dry, and footwear waterproof. You'll also need to make or buy sleeping mats. Camouflage elements are selected based on the environment. Therefore, hunters often carry camouflage suits or special capes.
- You also need to make a blind, i.e., prepare a place for the bird to wait. It's worth noting that ravines and pits aren't the best places for goose hunting. You'll have to dig your own, somewhere surrounded by trees or plants.
These are the preparatory steps you should take before the hunt begins. Then, wait for the birds to arrive. You can sit back with a fishing rod and catch grayling, perch, and pike.
