What is a wobbler release?

Not everyone who goes on fishing trips to the protected areas of the Turukhansk region knows about this device. It allows you to avoid losing such expensive lures as wobblers. Spoon lure extractors are also available, and they often help anglers when they get snagged. How does this device work? What are its advantages and features?

Design features

The retrievers are designed in the form of a grappling hook or carabiner, equipped with various auxiliary components. In addition to being equipped with metal rings arranged in strips, the device also features double and triple connectors, as well as a strong thread or cable.

The hooks have many modifications.
They come in various types and shapes.

How does the unhooker work?

To release a hooked bait, the working functions are performed as follows:

  • The unit is lowered to a specific location where the snag occurred;
  • After which, the fishermen try to free the wobbler from the unexpectedly appeared obstacle;
  • To ensure high-quality work, various additions described above are used.

The device is designed to safely release wobblers and spoons. This is accomplished with a rig. Various weights and heavy rings are included. They can free snagged lures by cutting them away from unwanted weeds, snags, and the like.
In extreme cases, connect it to the fishing tackle. Then, remove the wobbler from the water. The advantage of using a device is that it will release the wobbler without damage. Here's how:

  • The release elements are placed on the fishing line and lowered into the hooking point.
  • The gear should be kept in a taut position.
  • Then the unit begins to move along the line at certain degrees until it connects with the wobbler.
  • The vibration waves inform the angler that the point has been reached, and then the cable begins to reel in or twitch.
  • Thus, the tackle is cut off from the obstacle.

The only thing you should know is that different hook release devices have differences in the way they release baits.

Operating principles

Each unit has its own unique characteristics and types. Therefore, their operation is performed differently.

  • Heavy retrievers can be transported to the snagged wobbler using watercraft such as boats or rafts. Their weight allows for the release of the snagged bait. To do this, you'll need to swim directly to the snagged area. Tighten the fishing line at a right angle and connect it to the retriever. The wobbler may not always release after just one dive, but it should do so after a few attempts.
  • If the snag occurs near the shore, tighten the line and connect it to the retriever. Then lower it at a specific angle so it can engage the bait at the snag site. The retriever will attach to the bait and the existing side elements, allowing for safe release.
A heavier type of unhooker.
When rafting on the Putorana Plateau, you can expect your wobbler to get snagged. Fishing lure releases will come to the rescue.

Varieties

As already described, there are shore-based and boat-based devices. They differ in size and weight. Sometimes, anglers can build a homemade device right on the raft using scrap materials.

Boat

A plumb bob is a device made of an alloy weighing up to 50 grams, equipped with a pair of rings. One is for attaching to the fishing line, and the other is for attaching a cable or cord. The principle of operation is that when the bob bob reaches a snag along the taut fishing line, it strikes it, releasing the wobbler.
A grappler is a heavy, ring-shaped device equipped with various treble hooks and metal leashes. Once the hook is reached, all the elements of the grappler are connected to the hooks of the bait, and with a single pull, the hook is released.
A fishing rod with a loop is designed for shallow water. This design can be made right on the spot. To release the lure, attach a connecting ring to the rod. The diameter of the ring should be slightly wider than the lure itself. After connecting the ring to the tackle, lower the rod and the lure to the snag. Then, using careful movements, attempt to release the lure.
A trap is a triangular frame that becomes motionless after a snag is found. By connecting with the lure at its top, the trap prevents the line from passing through its body, releasing the wobbler.

The unhooker can be delivered to the site using floating craft.
Unhooking can also be done from the shore.

Coastal

A floating ring is a simple device that can also be made using rafting. It can be made from a steel rod and a ring 50-80 cm in diameter. The ring must be connected to the tackle and insulated around the circumference. The hook is then released to the hook point. The ring's weight causes it to sink toward the wobbler, allowing it to be released.
A trap with a snap hook is also a simple method of unhooking. It's made from a standard size 16-20 snap hook and a short, thick thread (15-20 cm). The rim is equipped with hooks, treble hooks, and rings; these elements help release the bait from underwater captivity when it reaches the snag point.
