Goby, what features is this fish famous for?

You won't be able to catch this fish on fishing trips to Siberia, as it is found primarily in the seas and rivers of European Russia. The Black Sea and the Sea of Azov are considered the most abundant. The goby also inhabits the Caspian and Baltic Seas, although its numbers are much lower there. It's also possible to catch this species in the Volga, Danube, and Dnieper rivers. Unfortunately, this warm-water fish is not found in the taiga waters of the Putorana Plateau. However, there are many noble salmon species, such as lenok, brown trout, and taimen.

Features of the bull:

The tsucik, or goby, is considered one of the most recognizable fishes of the ray-finned class. This species received its unique name due to its large head, which, like the fish's body, is slightly flattened. Incidentally, in this specimen, the head is large compared to the fish's body.

  • Another characteristic of the goby is that when viewed from the front, its width is significantly greater than its height. This creates the impression that the goby's head takes up most of the fish.
  • This fish has whisker-like tubes for smelling.
  • The goby's body is covered with large scales, and their edges are strongly rounded.
  • The fish's primary body color ranges are brown and yellowish-gray. Additionally, the goby has several transverse stripes on its back.
  • The ventral fins are covered with dark stripes, while all the other fins have dark, speckled spots. The goby's tail has a single black spot surrounded by small white ones.

Experienced anglers easily distinguish males from females, especially during spawning season. During this time, males develop an orange stripe on their lower parts, and their pectoral fins become larger.

The tsuki goby looks exotic and is easy to distinguish from other fish.
The bull's head is visually several times larger than its body.

What sizes are bulls?

Tsutsiki don't grow very large. The maximum length of an adult reaches 12 cm, weighing only 10 grams. However, not all fish found in different bodies of water reach such sizes. Larger Tsutsiki, growing to this weight and length, are found only in the Black Sea, while smaller ones are found in the Caspian Sea. Their length sometimes exceeds 7.5 centimeters.

Although the goby is a euryhaline fish species—meaning it tolerates saltwater—in the seas it seeks out areas with high levels of desalination. This means it lives near the coast or in bays, estuaries, and estuaries. In European countries, gobies are protected by the Berne Convention, so their fishing may be restricted or even banned.

How to catch a bullhead?

Although gobies aren't considered active fish, catching them is far from easy. The primary fishing gear for these fish is fine-mesh nets. Other fishing gear may prove useless.

Small trophy.

Conclusion

These are the characteristics of the goby. Even though it has little commercial value, fishermen living on the shores of the Black, Azov, and Caspian Seas enjoy hunting this small representative of the underwater world. It is very healthy and tasty. Even its small weight and length never deter fishermen. Similar to the small but incredibly fatty ruff, which is prized in Siberia, it makes a truly extraordinary and rich fish soup.
