Transoms on watercraft are the structures to which motors are attached. Fishing trips through the protected taiga of the Putorana Plateau involve rafting down rivers and lakes on inflatable PVC boats. We've dedicated several articles to these fishing tools.
They described how to repair them yourself, returning your faithful assistant, the boat, back into service on the water after damage, cuts, etc. The publication will tell in detail about transoms, their varieties, and features.
Design Features
On floating craft, they may differ. Motor mount plates vary in rigidity, strength, and height. The heavier the engine being installed on the boat, the stronger the transom plate should be.
On PVC boats, these components are weaker than on rigid boats, but they are strong enough to support the motor. The transoms are glued to the stern and have special fasteners. When choosing a motor, consider the height of the transom plate, as it is not adjustable.

How to make a transom with your own hands?
In addition to engines, fishfinder transducers can also be attached to transoms. Experienced fishermen make their own and customize them to suit their specific needs. This makes fishing more convenient and productive. A homemade design saves money, and its construction is as follows:
The transoms are attached to the cylinders, requiring a base to be made. Regular, thick plywood is suitable for this; chipboard, however, is not suitable.
· After selecting the plywood board, the floor is cut out from it, according to the dimensions previously taken from the boat.
· To prevent the plywood from damaging the boat with its sharp corners, experienced fishermen screw small rubber pads to them.
· The next step will be to select a metal plate from two pipes and two pins (reinforcement), which must be bent at right angles.
· Pins are inserted into the pipes and, when assembled, they are welded to the plate, which is then screwed to the plywood.
Experienced fishermen attach various seats to their homemade structure. This makes it more secure and durable. It's worth noting that it's best to paint the plywood with waterproof paint or coat it with water-repellent materials.
In brief about the main thing
Any angler can make their own product, which will help avoid unexpected expenses. Just remember to consider the height of the motor you choose.
Use durable, reliable materials to avoid worrying about your safety or the unexpected loss of an expensive engine. This will make fishing even more enjoyable and, consequently, more profitable.
