Various edible baits, such as bloodworms, worms, and maggots, made from readily available ingredients, can make a trophy fishing trip more successful. Artificial baits can be prepared right on the float. They don't require any special ingredients or equipment and are excellent at attracting a variety of fish species.
These baits are especially popular in areas where live, natural bait (bloodworms, maggots, etc.) is difficult to obtain . The Putorana Plateau is located in the Arctic Circle, so it's easier to make your own.
The advantage is that artificial bloodworms or maggots are suitable for both summer and winter fishing. Fishing gear can include spinning rods, float rods, feeder rods, and so on.
What can you make edible bloodworms, worms, and maggots from?
To prepare such baits you will need the following products:
· Edible gelatin;
· Glycerin (liquid);
· Attractants (shrimp, fish, gammarus meal);
· Food coloring;
· Various spices (vanillin, cinnamon, anise, garlic);
Flavorings. It's best to buy them at a fishing and hunting store.
To catch predators, perch, and pike, it's recommended to lightly salt the bait. For more peaceful fish, you can add sugar to the mixture.

Recipe for making edible baits:
1. Gelatin (10 g) must be poured into a glass and mixed with dry ingredients, i.e. with flavoring and coloring.
2. The mixture must be filled with glycerin (25 ml), adding attractants.
3. Heat a double boiler to 60°C, stirring constantly, and heat for 15 minutes. If the mixture is too thick, we recommend adding 5 to 10 ml of glycerin. You can substitute it with heated water.
The preparation is now complete. Now all that's left is to shape the mixture into bait. To do this, you'll need to do the following:
· Grease the bottom of the plate with Vaseline and sunflower oil and place the prepared mixture in it, pouring it over the bottom in a not too thick, even layer.
· We wait until the product hardens, and cut it with a knife into long, identical strips.
· The prepared bait must be placed in a sealed container, adding a little of the above-mentioned oil, after which the contents must be thoroughly shaken.
· Put it away in a cold place until the moment of fishing.
It is also worth noting that the following types of bait can be made from artificial mixtures: corn, pearl barley, peas, etc.
For winter fishing, artificial lures can be especially effective and yield substantial catches. While they produce fewer fish in the summer, they can still produce some results.
Conclusion
We've shared how to make your own artificial and edible baits. As a reminder, you can prepare them right on the shore, then enjoy fishing with either a feeder or spinning rod. Colorful and brightly colored larvae can be a great attractant to active predators. And peaceful fish often attack homemade bait in large numbers.
