The humorous name "Pyzdrik" refers to an artificial resemblance to a small fish. You can try it out on trophy tours at any time of year, especially in the spring during the goose hunting route. After being dropped off by helicopter at the hunting site, guests and tourists often sit with fishing rods on the frozen bodies of water in the reserve.
Combining two pleasures in one—hunting and ice fishing—results in catching large numbers of spiny perch, redfin perch, grayling, pike, and whitefish. However, the Pyzdrik River is most often hunted by toothy striped whales. They simply adore these types of lures, allowing them to fish out quite substantial trophies from under the ice.
Fishing for them can be done in a variety of ways, from fly fishing, jigging, and even casting. We suggest learning more about the secret behind this artificial lure.
The design and secrets of Pyzdrik
Lures may differ in their design.
- Some of them are equipped with double hooks and are most often handmade.
- Sizes can range from 2 to 5 cm.
- The bait, if compared to a jig, is considered a jigless lure. However, experienced anglers often use the Pyzdrik as a bait.

The secret of this artificial bait is that it's made of silicone. Over the years, this material has proven its attractiveness to all types of fish, not only predatory but also peaceful ones.
Incidentally, the bait's creators had the chance to test Pyzdrikov during a trophy fishing trip along the Yenisei River, where they managed to catch large "river alligators" as well as a variety of perch of varying lengths and weights.
Another secret to increased catchability is that many experienced anglers equip their lures with a Kastmaster spoon. This allows them to land two predators with a single cast. The first lure attracts the predator with its shiny design, while the Pyzdrik resembles a small fish, which it swallows with great pleasure.
How to make a bait with your own hands?
Pyzdrik is considered affordable and inexpensive at fishing stores, but unfortunately, finding it for sale is very difficult. Therefore, experienced fishermen often make their own bait.

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Hooks with long shanks are first bent towards the point, at approximately 45 degrees.
2. The tail of store-bought products is made of elastic material, similar to rubber bands. Anglers replace it with a simple bundle of thread if they don't have anything similar on hand.
3. Take a pin and bite off a straight part of it, about 0.5 cm long.
4. Glue the piece to the folded area using superglue. This should be done across the fore-end. This will serve as the fish's eyes on the Pyzdrik.
5. Cut a piece of thread and release one end towards the tip, winding it in a circular figure-eight pattern on a glued piece of pin.
6. The other end of the thread is moved to the side.
7. Cut more threads and repeat the same movements as described above. The more you tie, the more attractive the ponytail will be.
8. Color the bait and the eyes using colored markers.
9. Next, you need to take silicone; you can use spoiled baits, such as a vibrotail or twister, and melt it in the microwave.
10. When it has melted to a liquid form, we lower the previously prepared blank with a hook and wait for it to harden.
11. When finished, Pyzdrika should be trimmed by cutting off all the excess on the silicone fish.
