What is a rig for a zaezdok?

This name refers to tackle used to catch various salmon species, such as chum salmon. However, you won't encounter this type of equipment on trophy fishing trips, and in this article, we'll explain why.

Features and types

Zezdki can have other names (zakol, prikol, kolishche, yaz, etc.). It's worth noting that they are used not only for catching red and black fish but also for hunting. In fishing, this design has its own characteristics, which look like this:

  • The fishing fence is driven into the bottom of the reservoir using special stakes.
  • This palisade contains rods and whips equipped with traps and other obstacles to pass through the enclosures.

This design is often used when fishing for chum salmon. It allows for commercial-scale harvesting of this noble species of salmon.

Fishing trip

The design features several parallel rows of nets, one of which is solid, the other with fewer nets. In the center of the weir, nets are installed—entrance areas for fish separated by transverse nets. The idea is that chum salmon or other fish that enter the gaps between the nets will move on and be caught in the nets.

In ancient times, a trap was installed to prevent fish from leaving the pond. This allowed for large numbers of fish to be caught later without any losses. Figuratively speaking, such a structure is intended for installation in areas of water where fish are likely to migrate.

Hunting trip.

Hunter's stake

Just like in fishing, traps are used in hunting. Since the 19th century, traps have been used for autumn duck hunting. The structure is also located in a body of water, but its unique feature is that it consists of logs tied together to float, with a boat containing the hunters inside.

To avoid spooking game, the structure is camouflaged with reeds, tree branches, and spruce branches. Another method could be used: driving stakes into the bottom of the pond and draping them with reed bundles, then setting up a boat with hunters inside.

Regarding the legality of installation

When it comes to laws, wedging is a double-edged sword. In some respects, fishing or hunting with nets is illegal in Russia, but commercial fishermen are allowed to use them. Therefore, using wedging in private fishing carries serious penalties. However, for commercial fishing of chum salmon, in certain regions and periods, wedging is considered legal.

Legal types of fishing.

Conclusion

We've described the fishing tackle known as a "zaedok." We've discussed the legality of this design and its appearance since the 19th century. However, when going on trophy fishing trips, you can try other fishing methods. Spinning rods, trolling, and fly fishing are especially popular for catching taimen, char, and lenok.

Various fishing tackles in an angler's arsenal help them win various prizes on trophy tours of the Putorana Plateau, as well as catch various predators and a variety of peaceful fish.
