The English Devon spinner got its name from the county of Devonshire back in the 19th century. It's still used for catching predatory fish. After helicopter casting to a floating site, anglers try to catch Putorana predators with this type of lure. What are the characteristics and features of these spinners?
Special characteristics of the bait
Their functions are performed using turbines, and the lures themselves are made in 3 modifications:
- Round;
- Flat;
- Faceted.
Pike, perch, and other predators bite on this type of spoon. The most popular model is a cigar-shaped spoon with blades on the sides. It has excellent balance, so additional weights are often not added.
Lures come in a variety of colors, but gold and silver tones are the most popular. Sometimes, spinners feature side hooks and single-tail anchors. Devon spinners are used on spinning rods and produce large catches. Their advantage is that they can be cast to any distance.
Recently, plastic lures have become available. Incidentally, they are no worse in performance and properties than their metal counterparts. Another advantage of Devon lures is that they can be used to catch large taimen, as well as other species of noble predators that inhabit the reserve's waters.

Fishing technique
The lure's primary effect is to irritate predators. They attack the lure, which produces distinctive sounds thanks to its blades. It's worth noting that the Devon Dragonfly lure has recently been added to the lure lineup. It rotates in multiple directions. Equipped with two turbines, the lure has quickly become popular.
After removing the lure from the water, it's recommended to blow it out to prevent water from stagnating on the bearings. This ensures Devon lures will perform flawlessly and for a long time. When fishing with a dragonfly, many predators, such as whitefish and grayling, try to attack. It emits vibrations and sounds that remind predatory fish of an insect caught in the water.
Other spinners of this type are useful for various retrieves. Their movements and rotations are smooth and gentle. The lure begins to spin as soon as it hits the water. To increase the quality and quantity of catches, Devons are equipped with swivels. Experienced anglers recommend installing two swivels. These prevent the leader from tangling and allow the lure to move freely.

Wiring with Devon spoons
These types of baits have different types of wiring:
- Jigs;
- Classic;
- Twitching.
When using a classic retrieve, anglers adjust the speed themselves. It's important to consider the current's speed and the appropriate horizon. On a mountain river, even when retrieved against a fast current, Devon reels perform just as well as on lakes like Agata and Epekli. The only recommendation when choosing reels is to use anti-twist, spinning reels from brands like Daiwa, Shimono, and Mitchell.
