How to fish with plug rods

Fishing rods are divided into different types: match rods, Bolognese rods, pole rods, and plug rods. The latter type has many differences from all the others. A distinctive feature of the plug rod is the lack of casting. Unfortunately, they are not suitable for fishing on the Putorana Plateau tours. Here's how to fish with this type of tackle, fishing techniques, and rod features.

How does a plug rod work?

A plug-in rod simply extends over long distances. The line then vertically lowers the bait into the water. This type of fishing arsenal is most often used in sport fishing competitions. None of the existing fishing rods can cast as well, specifically, at a distance of more than 17 meters from the shore.
To bait the fishing spot, you can attach a container to the pole rod. It will deliver bait directly to the spot where the line with the bait lands. It's worth noting that pole rods are not affected by dense vegetation or overhanging branches from nearby trees. These rods are highly effective, especially on hot days. However, pole rods do have their drawbacks.

Disadvantages of plugs

Despite their advantages, plug-in fishing rods also have serious disadvantages:

  • The high cost of these rods doesn't always allow for the purchase of a plug-in rod. The cheapest plug-in rods cost around 30,000 rubles, while the more expensive ones can exceed 200,000.
  • The weight of the rod is heavy, which is also a big disadvantage.
  • It is impossible to fish with plugs in any body of water.
  • Fishing with a pole requires some space to roll back.
  • The rods require the installation of special platforms.

Therefore, this type of fishing gear is not used during rafting trips on trophy tours.

Fishing techniques

A plug-in fishing rod consists of telescopic tubes over a meter long. The rod also has a tip (whale) with several elbows. This is inserted into the main rod and then extended to the desired length. A roller is used for this purpose.
The equipment of plug rods is no different from that of float rods or pole rods. That is, a float, a sinker, a line, and a hook. Another feature of the plug rod is a rubber shock absorber. It is designed for catching larger fish, to dampen their resistance. Plug rods are designed for catching river fish such as bream, crucian carp, bleak, etc.
Even though you can't use this type of rod for rafting, they're still gaining popularity. Therefore, many anglers are eager to learn the life hacks and secrets of this fishing tackle. However, many consider them the most expensive and unnecessary fishing rods.
