This species is well known to anglers who participate in trophy fishing trips. Unfortunately, however, it's impossible to catch it on the Putorana Plateau routes. The mullet is found a bit further afield. In Russia, it inhabits the rivers, seas, and oceans of the Far East. However, it enjoys great demand and popularity. It is caught not only for commercial use but also as a distinct species for recreational and sport fishing.
Peculiarities
The black mullet is a ray-finned, bentopelagic species. Its second name, black mullet, refers to its genus. Its characteristics make it a large fish and it looks like this:
· The body is relatively long, oblong, torpedo-shaped;
· Length, sometimes can be 1 meter;
· Large individuals gain weight up to 7 kg.
The back of black mullet is gray-blue. It gets its name from the distinct black sheen, and some individuals have dark brown stripes along their sides. The belly of the black mullet is slightly lighter.
A small mouth with a thin lower lip, somewhat resembling a pointed, bayonet-like spatula, is distinctive in that its small, sharp teeth are located not on its jaws, but on its lips.
The predator's eyes are particularly interesting. They have fatty eyelids that extend to the middle of the pupils. This is their main difference from other mullet relatives, such as the red mullet, golden mullet, and mullet. The mullet's fins and tail have stiff rays, but these rays are weakly developed on the back and belly.

Where does black mullet live and how to catch it?
This species is easily caught in ocean waters (Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian). It is also found in the Black, Mediterranean, and Azov Seas, as well as in the rivers of the Far East. The mullet reproduces easily in both salt and fresh water. During these periods, the fish can be caught near the coast, estuaries, bays, and lagoons.
Black mullet is a schooling species. Large specimens prefer waters with sandy or rocky bottoms. But landing a black mullet isn't easy. Upon spotting bait or food, the entire school stops, and only one brave individual will attempt to sample it, and only if everything is swallowed successfully.
An interesting fact is that his relatives are currently on guard and are carefully watching their attacking relative.
Beneficial nutritional qualities
Loban is especially valuable to culinary experts. The fish has:
· Excellent taste;
· Long and well-kept shelf life;
· Contains a lot of proteins;
· And low calorie content.
Another advantage is that sea bass is not a bony fish. It's easy to prepare nutritious delicacies from it. It can be boiled, fried, stewed, baked, and canned.
But there's a significant drawback. Black mullet can be poisonous and contain large amounts of mercury. Therefore, before cooking, the caught fish must be thoroughly washed, gutted, and beheaded.

The final part
We told you about a fascinating fish called the black mullet. This species can be hunted in the waters of the Far East. It's not surprising that it's considered a popular sport fish, as landing a large black mullet is quite challenging.
For bait, it's best to use live bait, swimbaits, or wobblers that resemble small fish. These are very careful and cautious fish, making fishing more exciting and interesting.
