What is the difference between active and passive fishing methods?
Fishing methods are divided into two types: passive and active. They differ in the following ways:
- The passive method involves fishing with live or natural bait without wires, playing with bait to attract the attention of fish.
- Active fishing is the exact opposite. This type of fishing is done using spinning rods and fly rods rigged with artificial lures (spinners, wobblers, jigs, etc.).
These differences are the main rules that can make fishing legal and illegal during spawning.
Float and feeder rods
It's worth noting that the described fishing regulations do not include definitions such as bottom or float rods. Given that this type of fishing with natural baits is considered passive fishing, there is no specific legal prohibition.
The key when fishing is for the bait to move independently with the current. If the fish attacks it, the catch is considered legal. The same applies to feeder fishing. Incidentally, a spinning rod can also be used for passive fishing.
Spinning and fly rods
It's worth noting right away that when fishing with fly fishing or spinning, lures, spoons, and other lures are most often used. The retrieve must have a specific action, meaning these fishing methods are considered active. Therefore, they are impossible and prohibited for fishing during spawning season.
A similar ban applies to fishing with bombardas or jigs. Another rule states that fishing from boats, rafts, or any other floating craft during the spawning season is also strictly prohibited.
Another illegal method is fishing during spawning season, even under catch-and-release rules. Fishing with artificial lures, reeling, jigging, and spinning or fly rods is punishable by substantial fines and prosecution.
