Match rods differ from standard rods in many ways. They are typically 3.9 meters long and have a large number of guides. Furthermore, collapsible rods are equipped with several types of bite alarms, allowing for long-distance fishing.
Types of match floats
These rods are designed for long-range fishing, sometimes casting 40-50 meters. Therefore, the bite alarms have their own weights. They are divided into the following types:

Waggler
This bite alarm is designed for match fishing beginners. It's made from an ostrich feather antenna. The body is cylindrical. Washers are used to weight the float, which can be added or removed as needed. Weighting the float after casting keeps it vertical. The rig is attached to the line at one end with a connector, allowing for excellent bite detection. The float also has a hinge at the bottom to prevent line tangling.
Slider
A sliding bite alarm without its own weight. It is attached via a hinge at the bottom. This rig is designed for fishing at a distance of 50 meters. After casting, the float lies flat. When a bite occurs, it rises. To prevent the float from sliding below the desired position, a stopper is installed on the line.
Glider
This float, like the previous one, is sliding. It's the only one equipped with feathers. This design, like the waggler, has a weight made of washers. The antenna of the alarm is made of several parts:
- The feathery, weakly buoyant part is the top;
- The center is shaped like a dart, allowing for longer, more accurate casts.
The float is adjusted so that it is visible even in very bad weather from a great distance. Sometimes, clear visibility exceeds 100 meters.
Avon
These bite alarms are designed for use with the Nottingham retrieve. Such floats are used very rarely. They have their drawbacks, which are not particularly appealing to anglers fishing with match rods. Therefore, there's no point in considering them.

These are the features of match rod floats. It's worth noting that these fishing tackle are rarely used for regular fishing. After all, it's easier to take a raft or boat with you on a fishing trip to get to your favorite spot than to cast long distances.
Match rods are primarily designed for fishing in competitions. These are frequently held in Europe and around the world. However, to have a chance of winning, it's best to practice beforehand, on other bodies of water.
