This ancient tackle dates back to the distant Soviet era, the last century. Back then, anglers had to invent and implement new technologies, crafting them themselves. Many of these fishing tackles still serve faithfully today, such as the jig and spring. Simplicity and accessibility are the qualities these devices possess. And catching quite large trophies with them is possible. What does a spring look like, and how can you fish with it?
Design and features of the gear
The name of this tackle comes directly from the fact that its main element is a real spring. The bait, which has a plasticine-like structure to prevent it from getting soggy and attract fish, is placed between the coils inside.
This tackle, made from readily available materials, is simple in design and assembly. A fishing line with hooks and bait is attached to a spring at a distance. For a better and larger catch, the entire setup can be covered with bait, significantly increasing your results when fishing for carp.
It's worth noting that predators such as pike and perch are particularly fond of hunting these lake and river species. Therefore, you can bait the spring with live bait and hunt these predators. This rig operates similarly to the cake bait, as the bait dissolves in water, creating a cloudy cloud that crucian carp, carp, and grass carp readily devour along with the hooks.

Advantages and benefits of the spring
Considering the advantages of such gear, the following can be added:
· The product's versatility allows it to be used with any fishing equipment: tip-ups, casting lines, spinning rods, fishing rods, etc.
Spring fishing can be used in a variety of bodies of water, even those with dense vegetation. The hooks are hidden inside the bait, waiting for the fish to extract them, i.e., to suck them in.
· A variety of springs can serve equally well and efficiently when catching trophy specimens for many years.
· The tackle is easy to cast exactly to the place where a large accumulation of fish was noticed.
However, springs also have a drawback: oxidation. Therefore, anglers are abandoning metal and opting for plastic ones. Unfortunately, these don't retain bait for very long.
Fishing rod rigging options
To attach the spring, you will need the following fishing tackle:
· The rod can be anything, from a regular float rod - bolognese, feeder, match, etc., to a spinning rod.
· Spinning reels equipped with a baitrunner and drag are considered the most successful in this case.
Line diameters up to 0.3 mm are typically used. For longer casts, thicker monofilament is better. It will absorb the jerking motion caused by fish bites, reducing strain on the rod.
· The bite indicator is most often a quiver tip, but sometimes you can use good old bells.
As we can see, the spring is quite versatile and in demand, not only for catching peaceful, non-predatory fish. Therefore, it has survived to this day, and fishermen use this type of tackle very often.
