Catch of the Kochumdek River

Many rivers of the Putorana Plateau flow into the Nizhnyaya Tunguska, one of them being the Kochumdek. This body of water, located in the mountains of the Turukhansky District, boasts a unique, picturesque landscape and uniquely beautiful nature. In some places, the current is slow and gentle, while in others, it is fast and turbulent. Shallow water and numerous rapids are common here. And while rafting down this mountain river, you are constantly surrounded by indescribable landscapes, filled with all the colors of the Siberian taiga.

An unforgettable tour with decent trophies

Besides the fact that at Kochumdek you're constantly surrounded by the wild taiga, it's home to a decent number of noble fish. In the river, you can catch large taimen or indulge in lenok delicacies. and grayling. The cold waters of the mountain river harbor a wide variety of predators, so time spent fishing flies by.

If the noble predatory fish don't bite, the so-called "black fish" in Siberia— pike or perch—are sure to bite, and there are also huge numbers of them here. Generally, there's no time to get bored during the rafting; on the contrary, the record for trophy fish caught in the river steadily increases with each passing day. It's believed that the Kochumdek, which spreads across the plains and mountains of the Putorana Plateau, is the favorite spacious body of water for the taimen, so the predator catch is always substantial. Especially since the trip is held in June and July, the perfect time before the noble predators have migrated to the Tunguska River or the lower reaches of the river. If the summer is rainy, the taimen catch lasts much longer.

What to Expect When Rafting on the Kochumdek River

The chosen time of year for the fishing tour ensures our guests don't have to contend with hordes of mosquitoes and midges. In this part of the Putorana, they appear much later, around the onset of autumn. However, mosquito nets and plenty of dry, warm clothing are still recommended, as nights in the Siberian mountains are chilly. For hot days, we also recommend wearing membrane clothing. Then, your Kochumdek fishing tour will be an unforgettable experience.
