Types of geese

Greylag geese
This beautiful bird is the ancestor of our domesticated birds. It is widespread throughout Russia. This duck has grayish-brown feathers. It is clearly distinct from other birds, such as brant geese, swans, or ducks. While the bird can weigh up to 8 kg, individuals weighing 3 to 6 kg are more common.
White-fronted (polar)
This variety of goose has beautiful white plumage. The tips of the wing feathers, with their black stripes, enhance its beautiful appearance. The bill is pink with bright spots. White-fronted birds are related to other ducks, which belong to the bean family. The average weight of a snow goose reaches 6 kg.
This species spends most of its time on the ground, moving more by foot than by flight. However, as a migratory bird, it is capable of covering great distances. Snow geese can sometimes be found as far away as Mexico, where the birds migrate for the winter.
Geese
These birds are very similar to greylag geese, but have several differences. They have a light chest and neck, and their feathers are gray. The bird has a dark bill with orange accents in the middle. These features distinguish bean geese from their greylag relatives. The weight of these birds rarely exceeds 5 kg. Individuals weighing around 4 kg are found primarily on the Putorana Peninsula. These birds are among the first to return home from warmer climates, sometime in early to mid-March.
Important criteria for spring goose hunting
Bird hunting is only permitted seasonally. Trophy hunting trips in the reserve most often take place in the spring. The key to a successful hunt is as follows:
1. Try to catch the bird with a shot when the goose is descending towards a body of water or the ground.
2. Careful and correct selection of the location for the hideout.
3. Consider the routes that geese take.
4. Find out the flocks' favorite places to rest, feed, and drink. These are often areas with reed beds or small lakes.
5. The main criteria for hunting are patience and perseverance. Then, excellent trophies await the hunter.
