Tokyo rigs and jig rigs have become popular recently. Spinning rigs come in many varieties. They allow you to catch various Siberian predators while fishing along the Putorana Plateau. These types of spinning rigs are most often used to catch pike, perch, and other predatory fish.
What are the features of Tokyo Rig and Jig Rig?
For regular jigging, two types of rigs are used: articulated and fixed. They differ in the following ways:
- Articulated type – baits are attached through the clasps of Cheburashka weights;
- The deaf type is the one where the baits are attached to a jig head.
How do Tokyo Rig and Jig Rig differ from the classic, regular jig?

Jig rig
The mounting features of this type of rig differ significantly from those of the standard and Tokyo-style rigs. Unlike a standard jig, the hook and sinker are attached independently. They are connected using split rings. This offers the angler several advantages:
- Increases casting range;
- A weighted bait can be dragged along the bottom. This means the weight moves along the bottom of the reservoir, while the bait attracts predators. The advantage is that it stirs up the turbidity, and some predators, such as peled, prefer to attack in turbid water.
Using a rig without a split ring allows for quick changes of lure and weight. This is considered the simplest method of rigging a spinning rod, and is considered a jig rig.
Tokyo rig
The Tokyo rig for jig fishing is similar to the previous one. The only difference is that this type of rig uses a stiff wire for the lead. Its length is 6-12 cm, depending on the weight of the sinkers. For 0.5-1.0 mm line, the lead is a bullet, and for weights up to 12 grams, the lead is approximately 6.7 cm.
On trophy fishing trips, anglers change their rigs based on specific waters. Sometimes, the rig is mounted directly on the clasp, without the use of guides. A double hook serves as the hook, and a drop-shaped weight serves as the sinker.
You can equip your spinning rod with two weights (brass and tungsten). They strike each other, attracting noble, predatory fish with their sound.

Wiring for these types of equipment
The Tokyo rig and jig rig use steps or short jerks as the retrieve. However, they have their own characteristics, differing from similar retrieves on a classic jig:
- When dragging the weight along the bottom, the bait is positioned higher and does its job perfectly, i.e. effectively attracting predators.
- They make it possible to fish in bodies of water whose bottoms are littered with moss, snags, etc.
These spinning rigs offer these features and advantages. They allow you to catch large, toothy specimens in the reserve's rivers and lakes. Afterward, anglers can enjoy a feast in the tent camp, with various delicacies prepared from the caught trophies. And the person who lands the heaviest predator on the route will receive a commemorative prize.
